OTHER RECORDINGS

This did not start out as a tribute page to the music of Justin Hayward but he is such a prolific writer and singer that I found quite a bit of it out there. The more obvious "Forever Autumn" was a monster hit in 1978/1979, but Mr. Hayward has done many other things even beyond his 5 solo albums. It surprised me that he was involved in so many duets and other projects. I am sure I have not catalogued all of his music.

Ooooo, my tears came tumblin' down Ooooo, my tears came tumblin' down since you've gone And your memory lingers on Ooooo, like raindrops from the sky Ooooo, my heart just wants to die since you've gone And your memory lingers on Who'd think a love like ours could part? And leave behind a broken heart that pines for you? Ooooo, strike down like falling rain Ooooo, a kiss won't be the same since you've been gone And your memory lingers on Ooooo, a mighty, broken man Ooooo, I do the best I can since you've been gone And your memory lingers on Yes, your memory lingers on Yes, your memory lingers on Yes, your memory lingers on

It doesn't matter, not at all Remember, just as long as you've got someone By your side You're holding a miracle come true Remember, just as long as your baby loves you Just as long as your baby loves you And when you're tired And the days seem gloom to you And all the sad things come in view Remember, just as long as someone's standing By your side You're holding a miracle come true Remember, just as long as your baby loves you Just as long as your baby loves you So stay by him And love him all the time When things look grim Just hold your love to you And the sun will come shining through And when you're tired And the days seem gloom to you And all the sad things come in view Remember, just as long as someone's standing By your side You're holding a miracle come true Remember, just as long as your baby loves you Just as long as your baby loves you When she loves you I'll always love you Everything so much, baby

I CRIED Released September 10, 1965 Manston
Well I just got your letter this morning And you know, when I picked up the letter I was wondering just what I'd find Now the letter you sent is lying right here before me And baby, I know I know now what's on your mind
I tell you how I cried I tell you I almost died Let me tell you how I cried
Well it's hard to believe what was written in that letter I thought I really understood and knew you But I didn't All my hopes and my dreams have vanished Everything I had And my mind is going crazy
I tell you how I cried I tell you I almost died Let me tell you how I cried Oh, what a fool chosen to love Only in love with you Wasn't so hard to do But now I'm without Tell me how to pull out
So I'm writing to tell you just what my feelings are And just to say a sad goodbye to you 'Cause I want you to know How it feels to have no tomorrow To have nothing at all When the one you love is untrue
I tell you how I cried I tell you I almost died Let me tell you how I cried Cried Let me tell you, baby...

I have never heard of the songwriter "Manston", but I know that Marty Wilde was a songwriter as well as a singer in his own right. I wondered why neither Hayward nor Wilde had written the songs that Hayward first recorded. Hayward may have been a bit young and inexperienced but Wilde could have done this. I have never seen any information about this "Manston" in connection with the Moody Blues.

I did a search for the Manston-Wilde connection, and I came up with another group: Status Quo. This English group has been around for about 35 years like the Moody Blues. I visited their official website, and their fans describe this group as "pure Rock-n-Roll". Much to my surprise, Manston and Wilde are co-songwriters on songs for this group (though they wrote with others, not with each other). I may have to do more research to find out about this strange connection...Strange Times, indeed!!

More news! It appears that Manston is a pseudonym for Marty Wilde!! In a biography for the group The Bystanders, the article indicates that Manston was a pseudonym used.

UNFINISHED WORK

FOREVER TO BE ALONE
NEVER RELEASED (See Notes)
Justin Hayward

Monday, the greyness of mourning upon you A part of your life taken from you Just for a while Oh oh oh oh.... Quietly waiting for someone who'll know why The price of an hour of love's so high Oh, I do Whoa-ooh...forever to be alone Where is the Eden that you've dreamed of? How many thoughts have you denied? Then you can say that you are lonely Whoa-oh...forever to be alone You'll know how many times I have wondered Watching my soul drifting under Oh, I do Oh oh oh oh love you only as much as I can do The feeling's too strong now to undo Please, never try Whoa-oh...lover please hurry home. Where is the Eden that you've dreamed of? Try to believe it's all come true Then you can say that you're in love Whoa-oh...

This song was never recorded except as a demo tape. In the mid 1970's Mr. Hayward was working on this song (probably to be included on his first solo album, "Songwriter") but the tape was stolen from him before he was finished. As this was the only copy, he did not complete the work. Some of the words were incorporated into "Songwriter Part I" from that album.

In the past I have not included this work because it taken from Mr. Hayward without permission. He has not approved of the production or received any monetary compensation from it. However, the song is known to Justin Hayward fans. In my effort to be complete, I have changed my mind and am including the words because is it is a known work. My apologies to Mr. Hayward, and if requested, I will remove these words.

I always knew we were meant to be lovers I always knew we were made for each other I always knew there was no one else Could make me feel this way But when you go away The angels cry each time we say goodbye The angels cry each time we say goodbye The summer sun always shines when you're with me I feel its warmth in the love that you give me I feel your touch and I know that's where I always want to stay But when you go away The angels cry each time we say goodbye The angels cry each time we say goodbye When we're apart, the rain, it falls The wind, it calls for you my love Right from the start, when our love was young The rising sun, the only one was you my love I always knew we were meant to be lovers I always knew we were made for each other I always knew there was no one else Could make me feel this way But when you go away The angels cry each time we say goodbye The angels cry each time we say goodbye

Ohhh let it begin to change Are we lost by losing? Let it begin to change It won't be long now Before we can live as one Let it begin to change What have we lost by losing? OTHER RECORDINGS

DAWN OF A NEW DAY From the Album "The Eye of Wendor" (1978) Album by Mandalaband
Come walk with me one last time Through ages past of man's golden greatness Now all remains is decay Crumbling ruin, heartache and pain Stayed far too long in this place Where no one can be free from grief and sadness What will be is now clear to me There's never need for sorrow And tears lost in anguish The scars of the past will surely heal For destiny calls us across new horizons We'll cast our hopes over the sea In search of a world of richness so beautiful So beautiful, so beautiful Let the waters of life wash all the pain and hardship behind us We'll set sail for the sun With every new day the darkness will fade Freedom awaits with the dawn For tomorrow will find us on our way On our way...

TREGARDOCK From the Album "Poetry in Motion" (1990) Vocals by Justin Hayward
A mist that from the moor arose In sea fog wraps Port Isaac Bay The moan of warning from Trevose Makes grimmer this October day Tregardock Tregardock Tregardock Only the shore and cliffs are clear Gigantic slithering shelves of slate In waiting awfulness appear Like journalism full of hate Whoa oh oh... On the steep path a bramble leaf Stands motionless and wet with dew The grass bends down the bracken's brown The grey-green gorse alone is new Whoa oh oh... Cautious my sliding footsteps go To quarried rock and dripping cave The ocean leaden still below Has hardly strength to lift a wave Tregardock Tregardock Tregardock I watch it crisp into its height And flap exhausted on the beach The long surf menacing and white Hissing as far as it can reach Whoa oh oh... The dunlin do not move Each bird is stationary on the sand As if a spirit in it heard The final end of sea and land Whoa oh oh... And I on my volcano edge Exposed to ridicule and hate Still do not dare to leap the ledge And smash to pieces on the slate Tregardock Tregardock Tregardock A mist that from the moor arose In sea fog wraps Port Isaac Bay The moan of warning from Trevose Makes grimmer this October day Grimmer this October day Grimmer this October day It's grimmer this October day Grimmer this October day

This album features Justin Hayward and others singing the words of SIR JOHN BETJEMAN set to music by MIKE READ.

FOREVER AUTUMN From the album "The War Of The Worlds" (1978) Written by Paul Vigrass, Gary Osborne and Jeff Wayne
The summer sun is fading as the year grows old And darker days are drawing near The winter winds will be much colder Now you're not here I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky And one by one they disappear. I wish that I was flying with them Now you're not here Like the sun through the trees you came to love me Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away... Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way You always loved this time of year. Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now 'Cause you're not here Like the sun through the trees you came to love me Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away... A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes As if to hide a lonely tear My life will be forever autumn 'Cause you're not here

Originally released as a single (Jun 7 '78), this song is now found on several Moody Blues compilations: Anthology/The Collection; The Singles; and the Very Best/Royal Albert Hall.
Different versions of the song are found on: Classic Blue and Justin Hayward & Friends

Music with a twist: In 2000 Sony Music released "UlladubUlla", the Techno Remix of "War of the Worlds". All songs have a driving beat and an other-worldliness that set this CD apart.

Still waters run Still waters run Still waters run deep Still waters run Still waters run Still waters run deep

An Italian comedy, this movie title is also a play on words. There is a person's leg involved in the plot, and the word "leg" is slang for a woman.
